SARA MEETING MINUTES - May 12, 2010 (approved
6/9/10)
Call to Order: The meeting was called to order by President
Prescott Grey at 7:31 PM. There being 18 members in attendance
and five members represented by signed proxies of the 42 members of record on
this date, quorum was achieved. In addition there were two guests in attendance.
Announcements:
Services will be held for Agnes Halls (KA5KIE) at
9:00 am
tomorrow (Thursday).
Dave Johnson thanked Bill Brundage for working to
fix the Association's spectrum analyzer.
Approval of the Minutes: It was moved (Leavitt) and seconded
(Johnson) that the minutes of the April 14, 2010 meeting should be
approved. Johnson noted typographical errors in the minutes and recommended an
amendment to the motion. The motion passed as amended.
Reports:
Treasurer's Report: Jim Lommen
reported that for April the total final balance was = $6,933.88 of which the TARA balance = $320.08.
ARES: Leavitt reported on SARA/ARES support of
the Tour of Socorro and on net check-ins for the previous month. On 5/12/10
there was an emergency exercise for the hospital and high school and the
ARES call out list was activated.
LEPC: Albrecht attended the state-wide
LEPC meeting. The local LEPC has been planning for today's
drill.
CERT: Doug May reported that
currently there is no CERT in Socorro.
Charter School: Spargo reported that the
VE session produced 2 new hams (Casper Huang and Alice Zhang) from the
Cottonwood Charter School. Both were in attendance at tonight's
meeting. Three of the students from the Cottonwood class will take the test
later in
Deming.
Old Business:
Nominating Committee: Johnson reported
that the officer nominees for the coming year are: President: James Boswell,
Past President: Prescott Grey, Vice President: Eric "Bear" Albrecht,
Treasurer: James Lommen Secretary: Doug May. Nominations were closed.
Election of Officers: The slate of
officers was elected by acclimation.
Approval of Fiscal Agents: James Boswell, President; Eric Albrecht,
Vice President; Doug May, Secretary; James Lommen, Treasurer; Prescott
Grey, Past President; and fiscal agent Penny Lommen, each having been duly
designated at the May 12th, 2010 annual meeting of the Socorro Amateur Radio
Association, were approved by the members in attendance at the annual meeting
to have signature authority as provided for in the Association's Bylaws for
the purpose of approving checks drawn on the account of the Socorro Amateur
Radio Association. Outgoing Past President, Vern Leavitt, shall no longer
have signature authority.
Alamo School Code Talker Diorama: Prescott Grey
reported on his visit to the
Alamo School to deliver the WWII-era radio equipment donated by SARA. The display has
not yet been started in part because of remodeling at the
school.
Confluence Park: Confluence Park
has been repaired
by members of the Bosque Task Force and is back in service.
New SARA Logo: Doug May inquired about the new SARA logo and if
there was movement to put these on to shirts or hats. May will check
with a vendor in Belen and Spargo will check with Kenny Gonzales of
Socorro.
SARA Solar Panels: Spargo asked about the status of the solar
panels acquired by SARA some years ago. They are reported to be in the
equipment bay of the EOC. One of the backing frames is in the Chevron
Building on Socorro Peak. Boswell agreed to oversee the project.
Field Day: Datil is one of the two
locations this year and discussions to date called for the Socorro operation
to be at the EOC. Boswell suggested San Antonio. Discussion ranged to a
variety of locations, but no changes were agreed upon. Moved (P. Lommen) and seconded (Spargo) to hold the Socorro
event at the EOC, advertise extensively and to document public interest to
help with the decision next year. Motion passed. A cookout for
the Socorro operation was discussed. Moved (Spargo)
and seconded (Grey) to allocate $100 for food for the Socorro station.
Passed.
New Business:
Bear Albrecht passed out insurance forms for ARES
coverage through city to already registered ARES members in attendance.
The Southwest 'Wouff Hong' was presented to Jim Boswell by
outgoing president Prescott Grey. Presentations were also made to
Glenn Mauger, Jon Spargo, Dave Johnson and Sandy Braun for their
contributions to the Association.
