SARA MEETING MINUTES - April 14, 2010 (approved
5/12/10)
Call to Order: The meeting was called to order by President
Prescott Grey at 7:30 PM. 22 people were in attendance. Bette
Majewski, a future ham from Bingham, was introduced.
Guest Speaker: Kenny
Gonzales
addressed those assembled on the topic of “Drugs and Gangs in
Socorro
County.”
Announcements:
Bill Brundage and Jim Oty reported on equipment that is being
assembled for Alfonso Garcia and the Alamo Museum dedicated to the
Navajo Code Talkers. To date, items include an ARC-5 (contributed by
NM5WB), and a BC-348Q receiver (contributed by WB5GWH), a field telephone
switchboard and field telephone (contributed by N5PLX).
Al Braun received an email message inviting
SARA members
to join the 7290 net (7290trafficnet.org).
Ann is prepared to provide eggs to members of the
club for a donation to the club.
Approval of the Minutes: It was moved (Leavitt) and seconded
(Johnson) that the minutes of March 10, 2010 meeting should be
approved. The motion passed.
Reports:
Treasurer's Report: Jim Lommen
reported that for March the total final balance was = $6,930.37 of which the TARA balance = $320.08.
Request has been made to the City for Lodger's tax for the
Hamfest.
ARES: 13 people checked into the SARA
ARES net last week. The HF net is this Sunday (4/18) - meeting at 7:00 pm to go
over message passing before the net begins.
LEPC: no report
CERT: no report
Charter School: VE session tentatively
planned for May 8 at MSEC. Details to follow. Moved and seconded
for SARA to cover the cost of the exam for Cottonwood students.
Old Business:
Nominating Committee: Leavitt reported
that we have nominated Jim Boswell for president and Jim Lommen for
Treasurer. As yet there are no nominations for vice president and
secretary. Nominations will remain open until the May meeting of the
Association.
Modification of the Bylaws: No
discussion. The motion, made and seconded at the March meeting, to
adopt the change in the bylaws establishing an emergency communications
committee carried.
National Wildlife Week: Jim traded a couple
email message with the national coordinator who is in the process of establishing
rules for the event.
Tour of Socorro: Assignment sheets and
release forms were passed out and later collected.
Field Day: Clarence Seagraves
indicated that he "might well" participate with the Datil
Well Group this year.
Hamfest: The ARRL sanction has been received.
Arrangements with the Fire Academy are complete.
Confluence Park: Clean-up and repair
this Friday (4/16).
New Business:
Question: Is SARA participating in the
Relay for Life? The response was - "No."
Skywarn Training: Plans
to have Skywarn training in Socorro are on hold because of no
date availability until June when students are gone. August is the
next best opportunity.
