SARA MEETING MINUTES - January 13, 2010

Call to Order: The meeting was called to order by President Prescott Grey at 7:30 PM.
24 members were in attendance.
Guest Speaker: Don Scott, Bureau Chief, Response
& Recovery, New Mexico Department of Homeland Security & Emergency Management
- Don
spoke on the challenges to emergency communications in New Mexico and
the unique resources the amateur
radio community brings to the table.
Announcements:
New Mexico QSO Party, Feb 7, 2010. Invitation
to participate in NM's big event. The EOC will be opened for the
event. Runs for 12 hours beginning at 8:00 am local.
The TARA will probably operate an HF station for the NM QSO
party.
North America (SSB) QSO party - 1800Z January 16 to
0600Z January 17, 2010 (Third full weekend in January)
Approval of the Minutes: After noting a change
to the copies of minutes circulated at the meeting, it was moved (Johnson) and seconded
(Leavitt) that the minutes of November 11, 2009 be
approved. The motion passed.
Reports:
Treasurer's Report: Penny Lommen gave the
report for both November and December. The final balance for December =
$5,889.28 of which the TARA balance = $320.08
ARES: (Leavitt) Enrollment forms for the
fire department would have been at the meeting, but for the failure of Vern's
computer. They will be available in the future. Saturday
(1/16/10) there will be a workday at the EOC.
LEPC: (Albrecht) The LEPC meeting
scheduled for 1/21/10 may be moved to Albuquerque since several who might
attend will be in Albuquerque for a conflicting meeting.
CERT: (May) Made a presentation to the County
Commission to see if they would act as fiscal agents for a CERT group. Response was not
favorable. Attended meeting for Relay for Life walk scheduled for April 30. If
SARA wants to have a team they are having a team leader meeting on 1/30/10
at St. Paul's.
Charter School: (Spargo) Class is underway and
Spargo is impressed with how well the students are mastering material needed
for the Tech test. There are about 10
students who are serious about the class. It was moved (Albrecht) and
seconded (Johnson) to reimburse Prescott for the cost of the 10 study guides
provided to the students. Motion passed. The installation of a VHF
station for the school was discussed. We have an antenna and power supply, but
need a transceiver. Albrecht indicated that he had a radio that might
be suitable. Spargo asked for volunteers to do the installation on
some Wednesday afternoon to be determined.
Old Business:
Confluence Park:
Moved and seconded to guarantee one-half of a $500
reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the
person(s) responsible for damage to the park. Cameras are being
considered for surveillance of the park.
Clean-up and Repair Day scheduled for January 29th.
Staff from
State Forestry will be available to help with repair of
damage.
New Business:
Tour of Socorro: April 17-18, 2010.
Amateur radio volunteers will be solicited.
