SARA MEETING MINUTES - July 8, 2009 (approved
8/12/09)
Call to Order: The meeting was called to order
by the president at 7:30 pm.The
secretary arrived at 7:32 pm.17
members and 2 visitors were in attendance.
Introductions: Two visitors were introduced: Grady Owens and Brad Smith
were in attendance and expressed an interest in joining SARA.
Guest Speaker: Ed Wood
addressed those attending about “Message Passing and the use of the ARRL
message form”
Announcements:
Tentative August speaker will be Richard Lopez,
Socorro EC, "The Smart Grid."
Richard Hunt has started a business dealing in radio
parts called Radio and Electronics Parts Emporium (http://www.rraepe.com/).
Approval of Minutes: Dave Johnson moved approval
of the June 10, 2009 minutes. Lommen seconded. Passed.
Treasurer's Report: Jim Lommen reported a SARA
balance = $5,995.53 and TARA balance = $320.08.
ARES Report: Mauger reported that equipment on
order (see 6/10/09 minutes) has been received.
LEPC Report: None
Old Business:
SARA Signs - Leavitt reported that three signs have
been installed at entrances to Socorro bearing the words: "Socorro
Amateur Radio Association, 146.68-100" along with the ARRL Logo. An
additional sign has been provided by the Bosque Task Force for display at
the Confluence Riverine park.
Field Day Reports:
KC5ORO - operated from the Socorro County EOC.
The groups attracted at least one set of visitors as well as a visit
from the Socorro Police who had been invited to review the
operation. The operation ran one CW station from inside the EOC,
scoring 157 contacts and one single-side band station from the
communications trailer logging 228 phone contacts.
W5AQA - The "Knot-hole-gang" again
operated from the Datil Well Campground in Catron County with 5
operators. Two Datil area residents visited on
Saturday. The group logged a total of 296 SSB contacts.
Hamfest
Monies have been obtained from the City of
Socorro to cover cost of flyer printing and mailing.
An early version of flyer is needed before Duke
City Hamfest.
Grey will contact Darryl Clutter (NX5W) re:
vending at the SARA/TARA Hamfest.
New Business
Socorro Chile Harvest Triathlon is scheduled for
Saturday, August 1, 2009 beginning at 7:00 am. Brundage reported on the Fall
triathlon communication needs include a minimum of four volunteers (but
could use as many as seven) around the course. Eight members indicated
willingness for helping.
Good of the Organization
The Riverine Park contract has been signed by the
President.
The date for next park clean-up will be set at next
month's meeting.
Jim Boswell brought up the topic of inventory labels
for SARA equipment. Prices will be obtained.
