Minutes of the SARA Meeting

SARA MEETING MINUTES - July 9, 2008 (approved August 13, 2008)  

Meeting called to order at 7:30 pm by President Prescott Grey.   Thirteen were in attendance.  

Speaker:  Bill Brundage (NM5WB) had been scheduled to make a presentation on Heathkit projects he had completed over the years.  Because of the rain, he could not transport the gear as intended and instead presented a prequel.  He will show his equipment at a later meeting.  

Announcements:

• Members were asked to complete forms indicating their participation in:
  • ARES
  • ARRL
  • Equipment/Operating interest
• Tom Frawley (KA0YYP) announced that arrangements for the San Miguel Hall were made.  Insurance needs to be verified for the event.
• Glenn Mauger (WB5OAF) reported that the URFMS was covered by their insurance for losses suffered.  It was pointed out that this coverage is not the liability coverage that SARA seeks.

Approval of Minutes

It was moved and seconded that the minutes from the June meeting be approved.  The minutes were approved as set.

Treasurer's Report

Bill Brundage reported that as of June 30, 2008 the SARA portion of the balance in the treasury was $4,673.79.  The TARA balance is $320.08. 

Reports

• ARES - The question was asked about who is an ARES member.  

• LEPC - No news.  Last meeting was not attended.    

Old Business

• Field Day Reports
  • W5AQA operating one transceiver from Datil Well logged 231 SSB contacts on bands from 15 thru 80 meters.
  • KC5ORO operating from the Socorro Plaza logged 90 SSB and 87 CW contacts using two transceivers.  

• Hamfest

  • The Socorro Firefighters have not yet made a commitment to provide food for this year's hamfest banquet.  Other options are under consideration.

  • Discussion regarding providing lunch at the hamfest to keep attendees there.  The requirement for serving permits and permission at the Academy were questioned.  More information will be obtained.  

  • Bill Brundage indicated that he needed to begin arranging prizes.  A motion was made and seconded to cap prizes at $1,100.  The motion passed.

  • These was discussion regarding the inclusion of a silent auction this year.  The consensus was that we would not do so.  

New Business

• The Officers presented the minutes of the annual meeting listing the officers elected at the annual meeting to the bank, but were informed that the minutes had to specify that these officers had signature authority for association accounts.  A motion was made and seconded to authorize:  Prescott Grey, President/Director; Vern Leavitt, Vice-president/Director; Bill Brundage, Treasurer/Director, David Johnson, Secretary/Director and Glenn Mauger, Past President/Director to have signature authority for the Socorro Amateur Radio Association's bank accounts for the purpose of approving payments of checks for debts.  The motion passed unanimously.  
• Bill Brundage asked for volunteers for the 2008 Chili Harvest Triathlon scheduled for the morning of Saturday, August 9^th.  Glenn Mauger, Jim Boswell, Tom Frawley and Prescott Grey volunteered.
