SARA MEETING MINUTES - November 14, 2007 (approved
January 9, 2008)
Call to Order:
Meeting called to order at 7:29 pm by President Vern Leavitt. Seventeen
members and one guest were in attendance.
LEPC: Fred Hollis spoke on several matters
related to SARA/Socorro ARES participation in emergency activities
SARA members signed up as auxiliary members of the
fire department will be covered by their insurance while participating in
incidents.
Status as an auxiliary member also facilitates
access to the EOC
Two IC-7000 (HF/VHF/UHF all mode transceivers) are in the works for the county
Announcements:
The SARA President, Vern Leavitt, is now bionically
enhanced - having had a pacemaker installed.
Approval of Minutes: The
minutes for the October meeting were approved as posted.
Treasurer’s report: SARA has a balance of
$3,511.38.
Reports:
LEPC Report
Bear Albrecht reported that the LEPC
draft plan is very near completion.
Ed Wood recognized Jon Spargo for
his initiative in early LEPC efforts.
ARES Report
Bill Kaufman was ARRL NM Section
Emergency Coordinator. Rick Sohl (K5RIC) now serves in that capacity.
It was moved
and seconded to open up the ARES HF radio to cover 60 M - a new frequency to
be used for State ARES.
Old Business:
Jim Boswell reported that the choices for SARA shirts
include either T-shirts of Polo-style. The consensus was to go for the
Polo-style shirts.
Bill Brundage reported that the quote for club
liability insurance came in at $320/year.
Hamfest Report: Brian Mileshosky provided some
reactions to the SARA Hamfest that were intended to improve the event.
Topics discussed included venue, charges for tailgating and forums. No
decisions were made.
New Business:
It was moved, seconded and approved that the
December meeting and latka party will again be hosted by the SARA
president. It is scheduled for the evening of Wednesday, December
12. The gift exchange involving a limit of $10 will again be featured.

Seth Price reported on TARA activities
The TARA net is held Tuesday evenings at 7:00 pm
local on the SARA repeater (146.68-; 100Hz).
A new controller and transceiver is planned to
get the Echolink station back up and running.
ARRL 10 meter Club Contest: Dave Finley recommended
that there are enough members so that SARA might participate in the ARRL 10
M contest in the club category. Johnson will submit names of eligible
members and advertise the event on the SARA web page.
