(archeologist with the Socorro Field Office of the BLM) made a presentation on
the Magdalena Trail and Stock Pens.
Approval of Minutes: Minutes
of the May meeting were amended and accepted with deletion of a phrase that
indicated that Dave Love was affiliated with the NMT Department of Geology.
Treasurer’s report: the checkbook balance last month was $3675.68 of which $280.08 is earmarked for
TARA
.SARA funds amount to $3395.60.
Reports:
Repeater: Glenn Mauger (WB5OAF), Bill Brundage
(NM5WB) and Dave Johnson (KB5YIW) reported on a visit to the SARA repeater
that resulted in retuning the cavities and preliminary installation of a new
antenna. High wind conditions kept the team from installing the antenna
at its highest position as planned, however, a return trip will rectify the
problem. It was moved (Mauger) and seconded (Johnson) that Bob Broilo be
awarded a one year membership for his help in installing the
antenna.
ARES/LEPC
Mauger was thanked for his efforts in organizing
SARA participation in the twice monthly ARES net at the EOC. This
participation is mandated by the contract signed with the county.
The LEPC is moving towards completion of the core plan so that it can be
sent to the NM Dept. of Public Safety for review.
Old Business:
Field Day: The Socorro Plaza has been reserved from 10:00 am on Saturday
(June 23) until 2:00 pm on the following Sunday for the SARA Socorro Field
Day operation. The Datil Well station will also be manned.
Gun Range Cleanup and Swapfest: At the last meeting Doug Scott requested
radio support for a planned cleanup of the range on either July 14th or
20th. The cleanup is still planned for one of those dates.
Mauger suggested that the communications trailer be deployed with the
generator so that a cool place could be made available for anyone suffering
from the heat.
Hamfest: The ARRL Sanction for the 2007 SARA/TARA Hamfest has been
received.
New Business:
Dave Asmus (KG5C) has moved and his family will be eliminating his
station equipment. Jon Spargo presented a plan to facilitate
this. The plan included a donation by Asmus of two towers to SARA for
use by ARES (with a small plaque recognizing the donation) and the
preparation of the remaining equipment of value for sale at the SARA/TARA
Hamfest in October. Monies generated from the sale will go to defray
the costs of Dave's move. Materials that do not sell, will go to SARA
with a value provided to the family for tax purposes. The equipment
would be staged in the EOC bay until the hamfest. It was moved
(Brundage) and seconded (Seagraves) to accept this plan. The motion
passed.
Mauger moved to appropriate $50 for shelving to hold
the Asmus equipment. The motion was seconded (Brundage) and passed,
followed by discussion of adequacy of amount and alternatives.
Johnson announced that he had been approached by the Socorro Striders and
Riders (SSR) about providing radio support for a planned bicycle endurance
race to be held in conjunction with this years Fat Tire Fiesta.
Brundage indicated that the date of November 3rd had been set by SSR for
this event.
Adjournment: The
meeting was adjourned at 9:15 PM.
